Buletin Ekonomi Kerakyatan dan Pemberdayaan (BEKP) (Bulletin of Grassroots Economy and Empowerment) is a peer-reviewed, open-access international journal dedicated to publishing pioneering research at the intersection of grassroots economics (ekonomi kerakyatan), cooperative enterprise systems, socio-economic empowerment, and inclusive development. Positioned as a premier scholarly forum for economic democracy and bottom-up prosperity, the bulletin serves development economists, cooperative scholars, social policy analysts, community development practitioners, and public administrators worldwide. BEKP prioritizes high-impact empirical research, participatory economic evaluations, micro-econometric modeling, and in-depth case studies on community-led economic resilience. By synthesizing foundational theories of economic democracy with modern empowerment frameworks and localized financial innovations, the bulletin fosters a deep, comprehensive understanding of how inclusive economic structures uplift marginalized populations, reduce structural inequality, and build self-reliant communities.

Scope and Topics
Reflecting its mandate to advance the study of people-centered economics and sustainable empowerment, the bulletin welcomes high-quality original research articles, systematic literature reviews, empirical field studies, and applied policy evaluations within the following thematic areas:
  • Grassroots Economics & Cooperative Systems: Cooperative governance and modernization (koperasi), solidarity and mutual-aid economic models, village-owned enterprises (BUMDes), and collective resource management.
  • Socio-Economic Empowerment & Capacity Building: Participatory economic development, livelihood enhancement strategies, women and youth economic empowerment, vocational capacity building, and indigenous economic resilience.
  • MSMEs, Informal Economy & Local Value Chains: Empowerment of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), informal sector dynamics, traditional market revitalization, local supply chain integration, and smallholder agricultural/maritime economies.
  • Inclusive Finance & Micro-Funding Mechanisms: Microfinance institutions (MFIs), community-based credit unions, Islamic microfinance and social finance (e.g., ZISWAF, Baitul Maal wat Tamwil), financial literacy, and credit access for unbanked populations.
  • Poverty Alleviation, Economic Justice & Public Policy: Structural poverty reduction programs, social safety nets, equitable wealth distribution, rural-urban inclusive growth, and regulatory frameworks supporting economic democracy.
Publication Frequency
To ensure rigorous editorial oversight, thorough peer review, and the timely dissemination of grassroots economic and empowerment research, BEKP is published semi-annually (2 issues per year, typically scheduled for release in June and December). Special thematic issues focusing on cooperative digitalization, village enterprise governance, or post-crisis grassroots economic recovery may be commissioned by the Editorial Board.

Peer Review Process
BEKP enforces a strict double-blind peer review policy to maintain the highest standards of academic integrity, analytical objectivity, and empirical validity across economics, cooperative studies, and social development disciplines.
  • Initial Desk Evaluation: Every submission undergoes a preliminary screening by the Editor-in-Chief or a relevant Subject Editor to assess thematic alignment, methodological soundness (econometric rigor, participatory action validity, qualitative case study depth, or conceptual logic), and structural compliance. Plagiarism screening via Turnitin/iThenticate is strictly executed at this stage, requiring a similarity index below the bulletin's maximum threshold.
  • Expert Peer Review: Manuscripts passing the desk evaluation are anonymized and assigned to at least two independent reviewers who are established academic researchers, senior development economists, or community empowerment specialists in the relevant domain.
  • Editorial Decision: Based on the reviewers' recommendations, the Editorial Board renders one of four decisions: Acceptance, Revisions Required (Minor/Major), Resubmit for Review, or Rejection. The final decision rests entirely on intellectual merit, methodological clarity, and the potential for tangible impact on grassroots economic practices and empowerment policies.

Mission Statement: The mission of the Buletin Ekonomi Kerakyatan dan Pemberdayaan (BEKP) is to advance economic and social scholarship by publishing rigorous, evidence-based research that champions economic democracy, collective prosperity, and grassroots empowerment. Grounded in the philosophy that true economic development must be inclusive, participatory, and rooted in the strength of local communities, the bulletin aims to democratize development research by providing an unrestricted platform for global academic, civic, and policy dialogue. Through the promotion of diverse, rigorous quantitative, qualitative, and participatory methodologies, BEKP seeks to empower community practitioners, inspire cooperative innovators, and shape equitable, resilient, and people-centered economic paradigms worldwide.
