Buletin Ekonomi Masyarakat dan Kewirausahaan (BEMK) (Bulletin of Community Economics and Entrepreneurship) is a peer-reviewed, open-access international journal dedicated to publishing pioneering research at the intersection of community economics, grassroots entrepreneurship, and micro- and small-enterprise empowerment. Positioned as a premier scholarly forum for bottom-up socio-economic transformation and inclusive entrepreneurship development, the bulletin serves development economists, entrepreneurship scholars, community development practitioners, MSME facilitators, social entrepreneurs, and public policymakers worldwide. BEMK prioritizes high-impact empirical research, micro- and household-econometric modeling, evaluations of community business incubation programs, and in-depth case studies on community economic resilience. By synthesizing foundational theories of people-centered economics with modern entrepreneurial practices and social innovation, the bulletin fosters a deep, comprehensive understanding of how community-based business initiatives create self-sustaining employment, alleviate poverty, and strengthen local economic foundations.

Scope and Topics
Reflecting its mandate to advance the study of community economics and applied entrepreneurship, the bulletin welcomes high-quality original research articles, systematic literature reviews, empirical field studies, and business empowerment evaluations within the following thematic areas:
  • Community-Based Entrepreneurship & Social Enterprise: Socially driven business models, collective entrepreneurship, leveraging social capital in venture creation, frugal innovation, and shared value creation at the grassroots level.
  • MSMEs, Home Industries & Informal Sector Dynamics: Capacity building and competitiveness strategies for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), family business and home industry management, street vendor and traditional market economics, and post-crisis community enterprise resilience.
  • Community Economic Institutions, Cooperatives & Village Enterprises: Governance and modernization of community cooperatives, development of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), joint business groups (KUBE), and strategic partnerships between large corporations and community economic actors.
  • Financial Inclusion, Microfinance & Business Literacy: Capital access for unbanked and underserved populations, microfinance institutions (MFIs), Islamic microfinance and productive social finance (e.g., BMT, ZISWAF), household financial literacy, and micro-enterprise financial management.
  • Grassroots Digitalization, Entrepreneurial Demographics & Public Policy: Appropriate technology and e-commerce adoption for community businesses, women and youth entrepreneurship, culinary and craft enterprise development in tourism villages, and public policy evaluations on community economic empowerment.
Publication Frequency
To ensure rigorous editorial oversight, thorough peer review, and the timely dissemination of community economics and entrepreneurship research, BEMK is published semi-annually (2 issues per year, typically scheduled for release in June and December). Special thematic issues focusing on women's entrepreneurial empowerment, the digitalization of community markets, or social entrepreneurship innovations for poverty alleviation may be commissioned by the Editorial Board.

Peer Review Process
BEMK enforces a strict double-blind peer review policy to maintain the highest standards of academic integrity, analytical objectivity, and empirical validity across community economics and entrepreneurship studies.
  • Initial Desk Evaluation: Every submission undergoes a preliminary screening by the Editor-in-Chief or a relevant Subject Editor to assess thematic alignment, methodological soundness (micro-economic analytical rigor, qualitative/participatory case study depth, field data accuracy, or conceptual logic), and structural compliance. Plagiarism screening via Turnitin/iThenticate is strictly executed at this stage, requiring a similarity index below the bulletin's maximum threshold.
  • Expert Peer Review: Manuscripts passing the desk evaluation are anonymized and assigned to at least two independent reviewers who are established academic researchers, senior development economists, or social entrepreneurship specialists in the relevant domain.
  • Editorial Decision: Based on the reviewers' recommendations, the Editorial Board renders one of four decisions: Acceptance, Revisions Required (Minor/Major), Resubmit for Review, or Rejection. The final decision rests entirely on intellectual merit, methodological clarity, and the potential for tangible impact on community economic welfare and entrepreneurial development.

Mission Statement: The mission of the Buletin Ekonomi Masyarakat dan Kewirausahaan (BEMK) is to advance economic and business scholarship by publishing rigorous, evidence-based research that integrates community empowerment, social solidarity, and entrepreneurial self-reliance. Grounded in the philosophy that resilient economic growth must be rooted in the active participation and prosperity of the broader society, the bulletin aims to democratize entrepreneurship research by providing an unrestricted platform for global academic, practitioner, and public policy dialogue. Through the promotion of diverse, rigorous quantitative, qualitative, and participatory action research methodologies, BEMK seeks to empower grassroots business actors, inspire social entrepreneurs, and shape self-reliant, inclusive, and sustainable community economic ecosystems worldwide.
