Buletin Ekonomi Pembangunan Daerah (BEPDA) (Bulletin of Regional Development Economics) is a peer-reviewed, open-access international journal dedicated to publishing pioneering research at the intersection of regional economics, local development planning, fiscal decentralization, and spatial socio-economic transformation. Positioned as a premier scholarly forum for sub-national economic advancement and public policy, the bulletin serves regional economists, urban and rural planners, local government policymakers, public finance analysts, and development researchers worldwide. BEPDA prioritizes high-impact empirical research, spatial econometric modeling, regional policy evaluations, and in-depth case studies on local economic resilience and equitable growth. By synthesizing macroeconomic development theories with localized empirical realities and spatial dynamics, the bulletin fosters a deep, comprehensive understanding of how targeted regional policies, optimal resource allocation, and inclusive infrastructure development reduce inter-regional disparities and accelerate sustainable prosperity.

Scope and Topics
Reflecting its mandate to advance the study of regional economic development and localized policy innovation, the bulletin welcomes high-quality original research articles, systematic literature reviews, spatial econometric studies, and applied policy evaluations within the following thematic areas:
  • Regional Economic Growth & Spatial Economics: Spatial econometrics, inter-regional income disparity, economic corridors and agglomeration, input-output (I-O) analysis, and leading regional sector (komoditas unggulan) optimization.
  • Fiscal Decentralization & Local Public Finance: Regional government budgeting, local tax and revenue administration, intergovernmental fiscal transfers, village fund (Dana Desa) governance, and regional fiscal independence.
  • Urban, Rural & Infrastructure Development: Rural-urban economic linkages, regional infrastructure financing, smart city and smart village initiatives, agrarian and maritime local economies, and spatial land-use planning.
  • Socio-Economic Welfare, Labor & Human Capital: Regional labor market dynamics, poverty alleviation strategies, Human Development Index (HDI) enhancement, demographic transitions, and inclusive community empowerment.
  • Regional Investment, Competitiveness & Sustainability: Local investment climate and ease of doing business, regional MSME ecosystems, green regional development, climate-resilient local economies, and localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Publication Frequency
To ensure rigorous editorial oversight, thorough peer review, and the timely dissemination of regional economic and policy research, BEPDA is published semi-annually (2 issues per year, typically scheduled for release in June and December). Special thematic issues focusing on fiscal decentralization reforms, rural-urban economic integration, or sustainable regional recovery may be commissioned by the Editorial Board.

Peer Review Process
BEPDA enforces a strict double-blind peer review policy to maintain the highest standards of academic integrity, analytical objectivity, and empirical validity across regional economics and development studies.
  • Initial Desk Evaluation: Every submission undergoes a preliminary screening by the Editor-in-Chief or a relevant Subject Editor to assess thematic alignment, methodological soundness (spatial econometric rigor, qualitative policy analysis depth, regional data accuracy, or conceptual logic), and structural compliance. Plagiarism screening via Turnitin/iThenticate is strictly executed at this stage, requiring a similarity index below the bulletin's maximum threshold.
  • Expert Peer Review: Manuscripts passing the desk evaluation are anonymized and assigned to at least two independent reviewers who are established academic researchers, senior regional economists, or public policy specialists in the relevant domain.
  • Editorial Decision: Based on the reviewers' recommendations, the Editorial Board renders one of four decisions: Acceptance, Revisions Required (Minor/Major), Resubmit for Review, or Rejection. The final decision rests entirely on intellectual merit, methodological clarity, and the potential for tangible impact on regional development policies and practices.

Mission Statement: "The mission of the Buletin Ekonomi Pembangunan Daerah (BEPDA) is to advance economic and development scholarship by publishing rigorous, evidence-based research that bridges macroeconomic theory with localized development strategies. Grounded in the philosophy that national economic resilience begins with equitable, empowered, and well-governed regions, the bulletin aims to democratize regional development research by providing an unrestricted platform for global academic, governmental, and civic dialogue. Through the promotion of diverse, rigorous quantitative, qualitative, and spatial methodologies, BEPDA seeks to empower local policymakers, inspire development planners, and shape inclusive, sustainable, and highly competitive regional economic paradigms worldwide.
